Pitcairn’s History

Even from before the Revolutionary War, the histories of Monroeville and Pitcairn have been intertwined.  

In 1849, our area east of Pittsburgh, then known as “Plum Township,” was split into two; the southern portion being re-named “Patton Township.”  The new township was to include today’s communities of Turtle Creek, Wilmerding, Wall, Pitcairn, and Monroeville.

In 1894 a portion of the southern Patton Township seceded to form the Borough of Pitcairn.  But for well over a hundred years, Monroeville and Pitcairn have shared the same history – the history of Patton Township.
